Why we need to say “Thank You” to state legislators who voted to hold the line on state spending

Families and businesses have to live within their budgets ? so should government.

In 2012/2013, the state of Minnesota is set to take in $2.7 billion more in revenue than it did during the last two years. That’s an increase of nearly 9%! Governor Dayton, however, doesn’t think that’s enough. In fact, he wants to raise taxes at a time when Minnesota businesses are struggling to create jobs.

And if that weren’t enough, Gov. Dayton and some state legislators are even pushing for double-digit increases in state spending. In fact, the $34 billion budget that Gov. Dayton rejected was $1.5 billion more than the state spent in 2010/2011.

State government has to live within its means. Minnesota families and businesses struggle to do that every day. Fortunately, Minnesotans have pro-job majorities in the legislature who understand that our state’s great quality of life comes from our families and our jobs – not big government.

Just the Facts

Total General Fund resources are projected to be $33.3 billion in FY 2012/2013. That’s an 8.7% increase in General Fund resources from what the state took in in FY 2010/2011– without raising tax rates! Source: 2011 February State Budget Forecast.
